PERSONAL SPACE

Mercury
2025

Oil and acrylic on canvas
24” x 36”

  • Mercury, the planet closest to the sun, is the planet of transactions, coordination, communication, and thought processes - wit and curiosity. Honeybees are the communicators of the insect world. In my birth chart Mercury is in Libra, a sign known for sometimes sugar coating their words. The bees in this painting are placed in the constellation of Libra.

Venus
2024

Acrylic on canvas
24” x 36”

  • Venus, planet of grace and beauty, it rules our attachments to others. This was the first of all the planet paintings and I painted a self portrait as an homage to my own fading beauty. My Venus is in Scorpio known for intensity and loyalty. The anemone flowers represent anticipation of new beginnings. I placed them prominently - as I face these middle decades of my life it is sometimes hard to see more than endings.

Earth
2024

Oil and acrylic on canvas
24” x 36”

  • An exploration of fragility and balance. The morning glories are in various states of bloom and wasting. These flowers are symbolic of trust and the brevity of life. The spider and its web have long been symbols of destiny and fate. The satellite painting here is a waning moon - again, a symbol of my age and fading fertility.

Mars
2025

Acrylic on canvas
24” x 36”

  • Mars is the planet of ambition, aggression, and action. It is considered masculine in its energy. Mars calls us to be assertive and take what we desire. Marigold and monarchs connect us with the spiritual realm and are symbols of optimism. These, combined with the sunflowers are an homage to my father and grandfather who passed away just before I committed myself to painting. Both artists themselves, they were two of my biggest supporters of my artistic dreams. The constellation, in gold leaf, featured here is Scorpio.

Jupiter
2026

Oil and acrylic on canvas
24” x 36”

  • Jupiter is known as ‘the king of the planets’. It is expansive, lucky, and abundant. The constellation here is Leo, as that is where Jupiter is in my birth chart. I found this same placement for my grandfather, who was my mentor, and my young son who possesses similar qualities of optimism, generosity, creativity and enthusiasm. The baby here is my son, resting in dandelions which symbolize the cycle of life, inner light, wishes made, and resilient hope.

Saturn
2026

Oil and acrylic on canvas
24” x 36”

  • Saturn is an authoritative planet, ruler of Capricorn (thus the goats). Goats are symbolic of work ethic, persistence, and sacrifice. The tiny flower is a symbol of hope placed on a barren cliff face. Saturn energy is about boundaries, commitments and responsibility. The constellation here is Virgo, as that is where Saturn is in my birth chart - that placement is said to give one a fear of imperfection or failure.
